Coming Soon - Laughing with the Lord PDF Print E-mail

We are pleased to announce that production is now in progress for Laughing with the Lord, Barbara Eubanks’ third humorous devotional book.  As with her previous books, Humorous Happenings in Holy Places (Tate Publishing 2004) and And the Angels Laughed (Tate Publishing 2006), the reader is given the opportunity to both laugh and be inspired by short anecdotal devotions.

Laughing with the Lord is slated to be released by Tate Publishing this fall.  Excitement and anticipation abounds in those who have read Eubanks’ other books.  Many testify to having their devotional time enhanced and renewed with these true humorous selections.  Some have commented that they begin their day with their mate by sharing a laugh and by discussing the truths in these books.  Others have used the books as gifts to Christian and non-Christian friends and using them as a springboard for presenting Christ to the latter group.

Opportunity to pre-order your copies will be given in the near future.

Take a sneak preview of the devotionals found in Laughing with the Lord after the jump.

Why Preach about God’s Backside?

Children may appear to be doing everything in church but listening, although it is surprising what they hear.  Sometimes it is more surprising what they think they hear.  My BLONDE granddaughter Bethany was looking at the things in her purse, writing on a bulletin, and doing anything else she could find to busy herself during the Sunday morning sermon.  The pastor preached about the great acts of God.  Perhaps he was referring to the wording of Psalms 65:8 in the Living Bible: In the farthest corners of the earth the glorious acts of God shall startle everyone. The dawn and sunset shall shout for joy!

Although Bethany had almost tuned him out, “the acts of God” grabbed her attention but she misunderstood.  She turned to her dad in surprise and whispered, “Why is the preacher talking about God’s backside?”Her dad looked quite perplexed as he mentally replayed what the pastor had just said.  He then realized Bethany had thought she had heard “the great ass of God” instead of “the great acts of God.”  What a difference a word can make!

Exodus 33:13-23 tells us that Moses asked God to show him His glory but God gave him something better – He gave Moses His presence for the task ahead of him:

Moses said to the LORD, "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.'  If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people."

The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.  How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?"

And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."

Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory."

And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.  But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live."

Then the LORD said, "There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock.  When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.  Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen."

Pray for the desires of your heart today, but ask God to modify your request for what you need instead of what you think you want.

Read the entire chapter of Psalms 65 where the psalmist rejoices in the great acts of God.
